The region of La Rioja is holding an international seminar of the European Committee of the Regions, organised by the SEDEC Committee that I chair. We will host regional representatives from across the European Union to seek and agree on effective and efficient solutions to a common challenge of European territories: the demographic challenge.
This is a territorial and social challenge, which calls for a multilevel leadership and an integral agenda, to define policies for the citizens and for the development and life of our rural areas.
We welcome you to our open, friendly, modern and diverse region and wish you a fruitful work, for the benefit of an inclusive and sustainable development of Europe and its regions.

Concluding remarks
La Rioja spreads over some 5 000 square kilometres. It has diverse landscapes, a variety of examples of art and history and fascinating traditions. Its privileged geographical location, in the heart of the Ebro’s valley, a natural crossroad, has favoured the open character of a stunning region that amazes visitors with its harmonious diversity.
